floater fishery

floater fishery
a seasonal, small-schooner, mobile cod-fishery based in Labrador waters which used mostly cod traps. It was prosecuted by Newfoundland crews who remained aboard their schooners all summer, following fish from place to place. The crews generally brought their heavy salted catch back to Newfoundland to have it dried in the fall
